Types of wood drying
There are several ways to dry wood, including:
Kiln drying
A common method that uses an oven-like machine called a kiln to slowly heat wood and evaporate excess moisture. Kiln-dried wood is stronger and lasts longer than air-dried wood.
Air drying
A traditional method that involves leaving wood in an open-air environment to dry. This method can take a long time, and the wood will retain more moisture than kiln-dried wood.
Vacuum kilns
A modern method that combines heat with reduced air pressure to speed up the drying process.
Solar kilns
A simple and safe way to dry wood quickly. Solar kilns protect wood from the elements and can dry wood to the moisture level needed for interior use.
